A number of details were however unworthyof a hotel of this standing: Air conditioning was not working properly in our room Extra charge for Internet access is unacceptable in 21st century for a hotel charging eur1000 per night! Reception staff was unfriendly and reception was often not answering the phone (we tried reception and concierge for 30min on our arrival day before resorting to walking down to see them)"

2 September 2010"It is not permitted for a 5 star luxury hotel not to have 24hour room service, the guest that pay 350 and 400 Euro per night to be charged 9 euro if they want their eggs at breakfast any other way than the scrambled that was provided for free. Breakfast service was extremmely slow. Spa is closed every Monday so you can't work out or use Spa facilities if you stay Monday to Tuesday. The rooms were not adequatelly cleaned as they did not vacum for the three days that we stayed and we had to step on bread cramps. They did not even fold our clothes, they only changed sheets and cleaned the bathroom. Half of the light balbs on the coridor leading to ous suite were not working and a few on the chandeliers, Thy should have been changed so not to seem neglected.Great Facilities but it is the details that matter if you consider yourself to be a 5 star "luxury" hotel."

4 August 2010"Overall I was pleased with the hotel. However, we noticed a very unpleasant smell in the room the second day. We were too tired to request a room change and were leaving in the morning so we did not say anything. For this reason I am somewhat concerned about recommending the hotel to others."

14 August 2010"If you are on a tight budget then this hotel is fine. If you can spend a bit more I would not stay there. There was no air conditioning. The rooms were much more plain than anticipated. The shower was awful to work, poor pressure and varying temperatures. Technically it was on a cobble stone type street with a few plants. Nothing pretty to look at, but it does the job as a safe and relatively clean place to spend the night. The staff speaks limited english, but enough to get by. Free luggage storage was a plus."

24 August 2010"This is my favourite hotel in the world, I've stayed many times. It is situated on a huge beach which is never busy even in August and so ideal for families. The water is shallow for about 100 metres so great for children to play in. It is also glamourous and elegant with a gorgeous terrace overlooking the sea where you can dine in style or have a drink listening to the pianist. There is a complimentary hotel boat that goes to and from Venice San Marco all day so you can have the best of both worlds, magical city and glorious beach."

3 June 2010"Staff were extremely helpful and spoke very good english. With the exception of a somewhat restricted continental breakfast, we really couldn't fault this place. Spotlessly clean and staff couldn't do enough to help. There is a lovely courtyard for smokers, with a mosquito net, candles, and even a plug-in anti-mosquito gel. I can see why you'd want to avoid room 007 (as mentioned in a previous report) as it is right by the lift shaft, but our room was excellent in every respect, with a stunning milti-jet shower in a beautiful bathroom. Don't pay extra for a canal view - it's a tiny siding, and you see canals all day anyway in Venice!"

27 August 2010"Well, As we experienced our entire trip in different region of Italy, Now we are absolutely certain that unfortunately Italian people are not friendly, in addition they never smile, not even a fake one during a day. Therefor I must say the entire staff at this hotel were not friendly at all, and to be clear I have to say they were bit aggressive as well, particularly African European receptionist. On the other hand the hotel itself & the location was absolutely great."

My Son and his wife paid 50 euros per night less than us and their bedroom wasa biger and their bathroom far superior. I explained to the staff that this was my 60th Birthday and could they offer a better room but was only offered one with no balcony. This seemed strange as the hotel was not full."

2 August 2010"Mr. Stenzel is an avid traveler and has delightfully reported that your hotel is "Tops" in his book. He has in the past stayed at the Metropole, down the block, and siad your hotel fared much better that that had. The pricing and the STAFF !!!..... He went on and on about every one of the staff members he encountered at the Gabrielle Sandwirth in Venice. The had a 1 month cruise on the Nieuw Amesterdam/Holland Line, and stayed pre and post cruise sailing. Please thank all the staff for all the excellent service to my valued clients. I continue to recommend your hotel and look forward to one day actually staying there MYSELF. I sold the property on the elements of location to San Marco Square, the Riva Schiavoni location and the charm of the property. Thank you for a Client success story !! Also, if you have to use the shuttle more than once (we had a group leaving at separate times), they will charge you 5 euros for each time (the first is free if you booked direct). Good facilities those. Extremely pleased with the room. Very helpful in directing us to attractions. Good English"

2 October 2009"The overall impression of the hotel was good. Our room 209 is not like us, however. The bathroom is too small. Our friends, whom we have recommended the hotel were in Room 207 which is substantially larger and more comfortable, for the same price. Also standing in our room smelled like an ashtray and cigarette smoke (we complained about it) at the reception."

11 April 2010"Superb location and a wonderful old building which gives a very good idea of what it might be like to be an affluent resident Venetian. Out of the main season however, when we stayed, it does slightly give the impression of being run by a skeleton staff and you will not for example find them coming out to see if you want anything if you take a seat in the bar or on the terrace. Breakfast is simple for a 4* establishment but well presented in an airy room or on the terrace if warm enough. There is no evening restaurant service but of course a huge range of other places to eat within a short distance and the reception staff are very helpful in making recommendations and reservations."

7 July 2010"The hotel was very comnfortable and clean, staff there were very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much for them to do. I have to say as a first trip to Venice this hotel was a great place to stay, it's location is perfect as it's right next to San Marco Square. The major tourist attractions do tend to be on this island in Venice so we found this hotel was just what we needed. Breakfast was lovely with fresch bread, meats, cheeses and also other continental options. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Venice, I know i will stay there again on my next trip."
