Hotel Overview

After a recent restoration, that lasted for many years, Venice finally has the pleasure to have once again, in its full beauty, one of the most historical palaces of the city, the Loredan Ruzzini Priuli in Santa Maria Formosa.
Located in a dominant position, the palace was once home to one of the most important families of the city, of which one of the members was a Doge, Carlo Ruzzini, from 1732 to 1735. The Ruzzini family moved to this palace from their previous home near to Rialto was completely destroued after a terrible fire in 1586.
The design is attributed to Bartolomeo Manopola, who became famous for his buildings that had no proportion of size. One side of the palace that faces the square is typical of the 1600's while the side that faces the canal is typical of the 1500's.
The Santa Maria Formosa square is famous for an occurrence dating back to 31 January, 944, when during a wedding of 12 couples from 6 different areas of Venice, Istrian pirates took the brides as hostages. A float of Venetian boats set out to chase the pirates and recover the brides. Since that day, every year, a particular party is held to remember and thank those who lived in this area. A painting of the events can been seen in the nearby Querini Stampalia museum as well as a copy on the third floor of Palazzo Ruzzini.

During the 17th century Loredan Ruzzini Priuli palace was one of the most important palaces in Venice.
It was renowned in all of Europe and visited by many travellers as it had a very famous art collection that was almost as unique as that held in Palazzo Ducale. Now the collection has disappeared as it has been joined to two large collections started in the 16th century by Federigo Contarin and Carlo Ruzzini.
Thanks, however, to an incredible work, two fantastic frescoes can still be admired in the Royal Suite, the frescos "il carro di Giunone" and "Zeffiro e Flora" are of Gregorio Lazzarini, the teacher of G.B.Tiepolo.
On the noble floor, a wonderful hall with typical decorations and Venetian marble floor can be found, this hall is ideal for reception and banquets.
In an attempt to return to the palace to the citizens, the palace offers its rooms to a private club and, during the typical Venetian holidays fo the "Regata Storica", "Redentore" and "la Salute" concerts, operas, plays and literary events will be held.
The palace has been restored in a marvellous way where the original Baroque style blends together with modern furnishings.
The 29 rooms differ in size between them, offering Standard, De Luxe and Junior Suite, as well as a Suite with a balcony over the canal and a Royal Suite.
All of the rooms are decorated in fabric, have beamed ceilings (some with decorations) paintings and prints, that represent Venice during the 1700's, that imerge you in the "Serenissima" period, but at the same time guests can enjoy modern accessories such as internet power point and Wi-Fi in the public areas and tea/coffee making facilities in the Junior Suite and in the Suite).
A central position with respect to Saint Marks Square and Rialto Bridge, an ideal place to stay close to the major attractions of the city but away from the crowds and confusion, easily reachable by foot and by public, private transport. The Hotel Staff is at your complete disposal to ensure your stay is as perfect as possible.

  • This is unquestionably one of the great hotels of the world. I have never staid in a more stunning hotel, or met better staff. We were completely thrilled with the Ruzzini Palace

  • The breakfast was terrible! We had it one morning on room service - which was awful and the second morning in the breakfast room which was a bit better in the sense that there was more choice. The breakfast was the equivalent of a budget motel. Canned fruit, fruit juice that was cordial, cheese was industrial "babybel"...
It is quite a shame as the hotel, rooms and service were fabulous and location very central while away from the hustle and bustle of other areas.
